संत जॉन बर्खमन्स
- वर्तनसाक्षी (१५९९-१६२१)
बालपणी जॉन ह्याने संत अलॉयशिअस गोन्झागा ( सण २१ जून) ह्या तरुण संताचे जीवन चरित्र वाचले होते. हे चरित्र वाचून जॉनने येशूसंघीय होण्याचा निर्णय घेतला होता आणि योगायोग म्हणजे ३१ वर्षापूर्वी अलॉयशिअस गोन्झागा ह्याने ज्या खोलीत राहून अभ्यास केला होता तीच खोली आता रोमन कॉलेजमध्ये शिकणाऱ्या जॉनला देण्यात आली होती. मग जॉनचा आनंद तो काय वर्णावा!
आध्यात्मिक बाबतीत तो खूप धीरगंभीर होता. निष्कलंक गर्भसंभवाची कुमारी माता मरिया जॉनला अतिशय प्रिय होती. आपल्या कॉलेजच्या चॅपलमध्ये असलेल्या तिच्या इमाजीसमोर तो बराच वेळ दररोज प्रार्थना करण्यात घालवीत असे. आपल्या सोसायटीच्या आचारसंहितेचे कटाक्षाने पालन करण्यात त्याला काय धन्यता वाटे! त्याच्या मते 'जितकी आपल्याला ही आचारसंहिता प्रिय वाटू लागेल तितकी आपलीच प्रगती झालेली आहे असे मानावे.
असा हा अत्यंत विद्वान, परोपकारी, प्रसन्न चेहऱ्याचा व सौजन्यशील जॉन वयाच्या अवघ्या २२ व्या वर्षी देवाघरी गेला. पोप लिओ तेरावे ह्यांनी त्याला १८८८ साली संतपद बहाल केले. अखिल जगभरच्या ख्रिस्तसभेने त्याला वेदीसेवकांचा आश्रयदाता संत म्हणून सन्मानित केलेले आहे.
“देवाकडून येणाऱ्या अगदी इवल्याशा प्रेरणेला मी मोठ्या उत्साहाने माझ्या हृदयाशी कवटाळेन" 'मी जर आताच तरुणपणी संत झालो नाही तर मी कधीच संत होऊ शकणार नाही.'- संत जॉन बर्खमन्स

"भरदिवसा त्यांच्यादेखत निघून जा."
परमेश्वराचे वचन मला प्राप्त झाले की, “मानवपुत्रा, तू फितुरी घराण्यात राहत आहेस. त्यांना डोळे असून दिसत नाही, कान असून ऐकू येत नाही, कारण ते फितुरी घराण्यातले आहेत. ह्याकरिता हे मानवपुत्रा, तू देशांतर करण्यासाठी लागणारी सामुग्री सिद्ध कर आणि भरदिवसा त्यांच्यादेखत निघून जा; त्याच्यादेखत आपले ठिकाण सोडून दुसऱ्या ठिकाणी जा. न जाणो हे कदाचित त्यांच्या लक्षात येईल, ते तर बंडखोर घराण्यातले आहेत देशांतरासाठी जाताना सामुग्री बाहेर काढतात तसे तू भरदिवसा त्यांच्यादेखत आपले सामानसुमान बाहेर काढ आणि देशांतरासाठी निघतात तसा संध्याकाळी त्यांच्यादेखत निघून जा. त्यांच्यादेखत तटाला आरपार भोक पाड आणि त्यातून आपले सामानसुमान ने. त्यांच्यादेखत ते खांदयावर घे आणि अंधार पडला म्हणजे ते घेऊन जा. तू आपले मुख झाक म्हणजे भूमी तुला दिसणार नाही, कारण मी तुला इस्राएल घराण्याला चिन्हवत नेमले आहे.”
मला आज्ञा झाली तसे मी केले. देशांतराला लागणारी सामुग्री नेतात तसे मी भरदिवसा आपले सामानसुमान बाहेर काढले आणि संध्याकाळी मी तटाला आरपार भोक पाडले. अंधार पडला तेव्हा मी सामान बाहेर नेले आणि त्यांच्यादेखत ते मी खांदयावर घेतले.सकाळी परमेश्वराचे वचन प्राप्त झाले की, “मानवपुत्रा, तू काय करतोस असे तुला त्या इस्राएल घराण्याने, फितुरी घराण्याने, म्हटले ना? त्यांना सांग : प्रभू परमेश्वर म्हणतो की हे देववचन येरुशलेममधील अधिपतींना आणि ज्या इस्राएल घराण्यातले ते आहेत त्या सर्व घराण्याला लागू आहे. असे म्हण की, मी तुम्हांला चिन्हवत आहे, मी त्यांना करून दाखवले तसेच त्यांना घडेल; ते हद्दपार होतील, बंदिवासात जातील. त्यांच्यातला सरदार अंधार पडला असता खांदयावर सामान घेऊन निघून जाईल, तो तट फोडून त्यातून बाहेर जाईल, तो आपले मुख झाकील म्हणजे त्याच्या डोळ्यांना भूमी दिसणार नाही.”

Ezekiel 12: 1-12
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a provoking house: who have eyes to see, and see not: and ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a provoking house. Thou, therefore, O son of man, prepare thee all necessaries for removing, and remove by day in their sight: and thou shalt remove out of thy place to another place in their sight, if so be they will regard it: for they are a provoking house. And thou shalt bring forth thy furniture as the furniture of one that is removing by day in their sight: and thou shalt go forth in the evening in their presence, as one goeth forth that removeth his dwelling. Dig thee a way through the wall before their eyes: and thou shalt go forth through it. In their sight thou shalt be carried out upon men’s shoulders, thou shalt be carried out in the dark: thou shalt cover thy face, and shalt not see the ground: for I have set thee for a sign of things to come to the house of Israel. I did therefore as he had commanded me: I brought forth my goods by day, as the goods of one that removeth: and in the evening I digged through the wall with my hand: and I went forth in the dark, and was carried on men’s shoulders in their sight. And the word of the Lord came to me in the morning, saying: Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the provoking house, said to thee: What art thou doing? Say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: This burden concerneth my prince that is in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel, that are among them. Say: I am a sign of things to come to you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them: they shall be removed from their dwellings, and go into captivity. And the prince that is in the midst of them, shall be carried on shoulders, he shall go forth in the dark: they shall dig through the wall to bring him out: his face shall be covered, that he may not see the ground with his eyes.

१) त्यांनी परात्पर देवाची परीक्षा पाहिली

आपल्या पूर्वजांप्रमाणे त्याच्याकडे पाठ करून
ते फितूर झाले,
फसव्या धनुष्यासारखे ते भलतीकडे वळले.
२) त्याने आपल्या उच्चस्थानांमुळे त्याला
राग आणला, हे पाहून देव कोपला,
त्याने इस्राएलचे नावच टाकून दिले.
३ )त्याने आपल्या बळाचा पाडाव होऊन दिला
आणि आपले वैभव शत्रूंच्या हाती पडू दिले.
त्याने आपले लोक तरवारीच्या हवाली केले,
आपल्या वतनावर तो रुष्ट झाला.
