वाचक : इब्री लोकांस पत्र यातून घेतलेले वाचन
विश्वास हा आशा धरलेल्या गोष्टींविषयी भरवसा आणि न दिसणाऱ्या गोष्टींबद्दलची खात्री आहे. विश्वासाच्या बाबतीत पूर्वजांविषयी साक्ष देण्यात आली होती. आब्राहामला पाचारण झाल्यावर जे ठिकाण त्याला वतनादाखल मिळणार होते तिकडे निघून जाण्यास तो विश्वासाने तयार झाला आणि आपण कोठे जातो हे ठाऊक नसताही तो निघून गेला. परदेशात राहावे त्याप्रमाणे तो वचनदत्त देशात विश्वासाने जाऊन राहिला, त्याच वचनाचे सहभागी वारस इसहाक आणि याकोब ह्यांच्याबरोबर डेऱ्यात त्याची वस्ती होती. कारण पाया असलेल्या आणि देवाने योजलेल्या आणि बांधलेल्या नगराची तो वाट पाहत होता. वयोमर्यादेपलीकडे असताही सारेला देखील विश्वासाने गर्भधारणेची शक्ती मिळाली, कारण तिने वचन देणाऱ्याला विश्वसनीय मानले. त्यामुळे एकापासून आणि त्याही निर्जीव झालेल्यापासून, संख्येने आकाशातल्या ताऱ्यांइतकी आणि समुद्रावरील वाळूइतकी अगणित संतती निर्माण झाली.
हे सर्व जण विश्वासात टिकून मेले; त्यांना वचनानुसार फलप्राप्ती झाली नव्हती, तर त्यांनी ती दुरून पाहिली आणि तिला वंदन केले आणि आपण पृथ्वीवर परके आणि प्रवासी आहो असे पत्करले. असे म्हणणारे आपण स्वत:च्या देशाचा शोध करीत असल्याचे दाखवतात. ज्या देशातून ते निघाले होते त्या देशाला उद्देशून हे म्हणणे असते तर त्यांना परत जाण्याची संधी होती. पण आता ते अधिक चांगल्या देशाची म्हणजे स्वर्गीय देशाची उत्कंठा धरतात. ह्यामुळे आपणाला त्यांचा देव म्हणवून घ्यावयास देवाला त्यांची लाज वाटत नाही, कारण त्याने त्यांच्यासाठी नगर तयार केले आहे. आब्राहामाने आपली परीक्षा होत असता विश्वासाने इसहाकचे अर्पण केले. ज्याने वचने स्वीकारली होती तो आपल्या एकुलत्या एक पुत्राचे अर्पण करीत होता; त्याला असे सांगितले होते, “इसहाकच्याच वंशाला तुझे संतान म्हणतील." तेव्हा मेलेल्यातून देखील उठवावयास देव समर्थ आहे, हे त्याने मानले आणि त्या स्थितीतून लाक्षणिक अर्थाने तो त्याला परत मिळाला.

: Hebrews 11: 1-2, 8-19
1 Now faith is the substance of things to be hoped for, the evidence of things that appear not.
2 For by this the ancients obtained a testimony.
8 By faith he that is called Abraham, obeyed to go out into a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he abode in the land, dwelling in cottages, with Isaac and Jacob, the co-heirs of the same promise.
10 For he looked for a city that hath foundations; whose builder and maker is God.
11 By faith also Sara herself, being barren, received strength to conceive seed, even past the time of age; because she believed that he was faithful who had promised,
12 For which cause there sprung even from one (and him as good as dead) as the stars of heaven in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.
13 All these died according to faith, not having received the promises, but beholding them afar off, and saluting them, and confessing that they are pilgrims and strangers on the earth.
14 For they that say these things, do signify that they seek a country.
15 And truly if they had been mindful of that from whence they came out, they had doubtless time to return.
16 But now they desire a better, that is to say, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.
17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered Isaac: and he that had received the promises, offered up his only begotten son;
18 (To whom it was said: In Isaac shall thy seed be called.)
19 Accounting that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Whereupon also he received him for a parable.

प्रतिसाद : इस्राएलचा देव प्रभू धन्यवादित असो !
१) आपल्यासाठी त्याने आपला दास दावीद ह्याच्या घराण्यात बलवान उद्धारक प्रस्थापित केला आहे. हे त्याने युगाच्या प्रारंभापासून आपल्या पवित्र संदेष्ट्यांच्या मुखाद्वारे सांगितले होते.
२) म्हणजे आपल्या शत्रूच्या आणि आपला द्वेष करणाऱ्या सर्वांच्या हातून सुटका करावी; अशासाठी की, आपल्या पूर्वजांवर त्याने दया करावी आणि त्याने आपला पवित्र करार स्मरावा.
३) म्हणजे जी शपथ आपला पूर्वज आब्राहाम ह्याच्याशी त्याने वाहिली, ती स्मरावी; ती अशी की, तुम्ही आपल्या शत्रूच्या हातून सुटून माझ्यासमोर पवित्रतेने आणि नीतीने आयुष्यभर माझी सेवा निर्भयपणे कराल, असे मी करीन.

शुभवर्तमान मार्क ४:३५-४१
वाचक : मार्कलिखित पवित्र शुभवर्तमानातून घेतलेले वाचन
संध्याकाळ झाल्यावर येशू आपल्या शिष्यांना म्हणाला, "आपण पलीकडे जाऊ या," तेव्हा लोक समुदायाला सोडल्यावर, येशू मचव्यात होता ते तसाच त्याला घेऊन गेले. दुसरेही मचवे त्याच्याबरोबर होते. नंतर मोठे वादळ सुटले आणि लाटा मचव्यावर अशा आदळत होत्या की तो पाण्याने भरू लागला. येशू तर होडीच्या मागच्या बाजूला उशास घेऊन झोपी गेला होता. तेव्हा ते त्याला जागे करून म्हणाले, "गुरुजी, आपण बुडत आहोत तरी आपणाला काहीच वाटत नाही ?" तेव्हा त्याने उठून वाऱ्याला धमकावले आणि समुद्राला म्हटले, "उगा राहा! शांत हो!" मग वारा थांबला आणि अगदी निवांत झाले. नंतर येशू त्यांना म्हणाला, "तुम्ही इतके भित्रे कसे ? तुम्हाला विश्वास कसा नाही?" तेव्हा ते अतिशय घाबरले आणि एकमेकांना म्हणू लागले, "हा आहे तरी कोण? वारा आणि समुद्र हे देखील ह्याचे ऐकतात."
प्रभूचे हे शुभवर्तमान

35 And he saith to them that day, when evening was come: Let us pass over to the other side.36 And sending away the multitude, they take him even as he was in the ship: and there were other ships with him. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that the ship was filled. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, sleeping upon a pillow; and they awake him, and say to him: Master, doth it not concern thee that we perish? 39 And rising up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea: Peace, be still. And the wind ceased: and there was made a great calm. 40 And he said to them: Why are you fearful? have you not faith yet? 41 And they feared exceedingly: and they said one to another: Who is this (thinkest thou) that both wind and sea obey him?

चिंतन:
आजच्या पहिल्या वाचनात आपणांस अब्राहामच्या दृढ विश्वासाची आठवण करून देण्यात आली आहे. अब्राहाम सर्व बाबतीत परमेश्वराशी एकनिष्ठ राहिला आणि त्याची परीक्षा होत असताना त्याने आपला विश्वास ढळू दिला नाही. ह्याउलट शुभवर्तमानामध्ये शिष्यांचे उदाहरण आहे. स्वतः परमेश्वर त्यांच्या बरोबर असताना देखील ते विश्वास ठेवण्यास अपात्र ठरतात. आपण बुडून जाऊ ह्या मरणाच्या भीतीमुळे ते विश्वास ठेवण्यास कमी पडतात. पण शेवटी त्यांना प्रभू येशूची आठवण होते. प्रभू येशूने वादळ शांत केल्यानंतर ते विस्मयचकित होतात; त्यांना पूर्णपणे उलगडत नाही की, प्रभू येशू कोण आहे. आज आपल्या समोर अब्राहाम आणि शिष्य ह्यांची उदाहरणे ठेवण्यात आली आहेत. परिपूर्ण विश्वासासाठी प्रथम येशूला ओळखणे आवश्यक आहे. आपल्या संघर्षमय जीवनाच्या बोटीत प्रभू येशू सदैव आपल्या बरोबर आहे, हा आपला विश्वास असला पाहिजे. विश्वासानेच आपल्या जीवनातील वादळ आणि संघर्ष शांत होऊ शकतो.
प्रार्थना : हे प्रभू येशु, जीवनातील कठीण प्रसंगी धैर्याने व श्रद्धेने सामोरे जाण्यास शक्ती दे, आमेन.
