प्रभू येशूची शिकवण आहे की त्याचे प्रेम व त्याची दया नियमांच्या व । कर्मकांडांच्या पलिकडे आहे. किंबहुना त्याला दया जास्त प्रिय आहे. देवाने निर्माण केलेला प्रत्येक दिवस शुभ व चांगला आहे. प्रत्येक क्षणी देवाच्या प्रेमाचा! | करुणेचा व कृपेचा झरा आपल्या सर्वांसाठी अखंडितपणे वाहत असतो.

"दोन संध्याकाळच्या मध्ये तुम्ही एक कोकरू कापा अणि जेव्हा मी रक्त पाहीन तेव्हा मी तुम्हांला ओलांडीन."
मोशे आणि अहरोन ह्यांनी फारोसमोर ही सर्व अद्भुते केली, तरी परमेश्वराने फारोचे मन कठीण केले आणि त्याने इस्राएल लोकांना आपल्या देशातून जाऊ दिले नाही.
मग परमेश्वराने इजिप्त देशात मोशे आणि अहरोन ह्यांना सांगितले की, “हा महिना तुम्हांला आरंभीचा महिना व्हावा; तुमचा हा वर्षाचा पहिला महिना व्हावा. इस्राएलच्या सर्व मंडळींना सांगा की, ह्या महिन्याच्या दहाव्या दिवशी तुम्ही आपआपल्या वाडवडिलांच्या घराण्याप्रमाणे एकएका घराण्यामागे एकएक कोकरू घ्यावे आणि एक कोकरू खपावयाचे नाही इतकी थोडी माणसे कोणाच्या घराण्यात असली तर त्याने आणि त्याच्या शेजाऱ्याने आपल्या घराण्यातील संख्येप्रमाणे कोकरू घ्यावे; प्रत्येकाच्या आहाराच्या मानाने एक कोकरू किती माणसास पुरेल ह्याचा हिशोब करावा. कोकरू घ्यावयाचे ते निर्दोष असून एक वर्षाचा नर असावा; हा नर मेंढरातला किंवा शेरडातला तुम्हांला वाटेल तो घ्यावा; ह्या महिन्याच्या चौदाव्या दिवसापर्यंत तो राखून ठेवावा आणि संध्याकाळी इस्राएल मंडळीतील लोकांनी तो वधावा. ज्या घरात त्याचे मांस खावयाचे असेल त्या घराच्या दोन्ही दारबाह्यांना आणि चौकटीच्या कपाळपट्टीला त्याचे काही रक्त लावावे आणि त्यांनी त्याच रात्री त्याचे मांस विस्तवावर भाजून बेखमीर भाकरी आणि कडू भाजीबरोबर खावे. मांस कच्चे खाऊ नये आणि पाण्यात शिजवून खाऊ नये, तर ते विस्तवावर भाजून खावे. त्याची मुंडी, पाय आणि आतडी हीसुद्धा खावीत. त्यातले सकाळपर्यंत काही उरू देऊ नये आणि उरलेच तर ते आगीत टाकून जाळावे. ते तुम्ही ह्या रीतीने खावे, तुमच्या कमरा कसून; पायात जोडे घालून आणि हातात काठी घेऊन ते घाईघाईने खावे. हा परमेश्वराचा वल्हांडण सण होय. कारण ह्या रात्री इजिप्त देशात फिरून त्यातील मनुष्य आणि पशू ह्या सर्वांचे प्रथम जन्मलेले मी मारून टाकीन आणि इजिप्त देशातील सर्व देवांचे शासन करीन; मी परमेश्वर आहे आणि ज्या घरात तुम्ही असाल त्या घरात ते रक्त तुमच्याकरिता खूण असे होईल. रक्त पाहीन तेव्हा मी तुम्हाला ओलाडूंन जाईन; इजिप्त देशाच्या लोकांना मी मारीन तेव्हा तुमच्यावर अनर्थ येणार नाही, तुमचा नाश होणार नाही.
हा दिवस तुम्हांला स्मारक दाखल होईल. ह्या दिवशी तुम्ही परमेश्वरासाठी मेळा भरवून सण पाळावा; पिढ्यान्पिढ्या अगदी कायमचा विधी समजून हा सण तुम्ही पाळावा.”

First Reading :Exodus 11:10-12:14
In those days: Moses and Aaron did many wonders before Pharaoh, and the Lord hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land. The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, "This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household. And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbour shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it. Do not eat any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted, its head with its legs and its inner parts. And you shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. In this manner you shall eat it: with your belt fastened, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. And you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord's Passover. For will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt. This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute for ever, you shall keep it as a feast."

"मनुष्याचा पुत्र शब्बाथाचा धनी आहे."
एका शब्बाथ दिवशी येशू शेतामधून जात असता त्याच्या शिष्यांना भूक लागली होती, म्हणून ते कणसे मोडून खाऊ लागले. हे पाहून परुशी त्यांना म्हणाले, "पाहा, शब्बाथ दिवशी जे करू नये ते आपले शिष्य करीत आहेत." त्याने त्यांना म्हटले, "दावीद आणि त्याच्याबरोबरची माणसे ह्यांना जेव्हा भूक लागली तेव्हा त्याने काय केले ? तो देवाच्या मंदिरात कसा गेला आणि ज्या समर्पित भाकरी त्याने व त्याच्याबरोबरच्या माणसांनी खाऊ नयेत, तर याजकांनी मात्र खाव्या, त्या त्यांनी कशा खाल्ल्या, हे तुम्ही वाचले नाही काय? किंवा याजक मंदिरात शब्बाथ दिवशी शब्बाथ मोडून निर्दोष असतात, हे नियमशास्त्रात तुम्ही वाचले नाही काय ? तरीपण मी तुम्हांला सांगतो की, मंदिरापेक्षा थोर असा कोणीएक येथे आहे. 'मला दया पाहिजे, यज्ञ नको,' ह्यांचा अर्थ तुम्हाला समजला असता तर तुम्ही निर्दोष्याला दोष लावला नसता. कारण मनुष्याचा पुत्र शब्बाथाचा धनी आहे.
प्रभूचे हे शुभवर्तमान
सर्व : हे ख्रिस्ता तुझी स्तुती असो.
Gospel Reading :Matthew 12:1-8
At that time Jesus went through the cornfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck ears of corn and to eat. But when the Pharisees saw it, they saidto him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. And if you had known what this means, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless. For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath."

चिंतन:'समाजाच्या तारणासाठी नियमांची गरज आहे. नियमांचे पालन केल्यास सर्व गोष्टी सुस्थितीत होतात; मात्र नियमांचे गुलाम झाल्यास ते मानवासाठी व समाजासाठी हानीकारक ठरू शकतात. आजच्या शुभवर्तमानात अशाच प्रकारचे अनुभव प्रभू येशू ख्रिस्त आपणास शिकवत आहे. माणूस नियमांसाठी नाही; तर नियम माणसांसाठी आहेत. याविषयी प्रभू आपल्याला बोध करीत आहे. शब्बाथाचे महत्त्व पटवून देताना, येशू आपल्याला शिकवत आहे की, आपण कर्मकांड म्हणून नियमांचे पालन करू नये, तर त्याद्वारे आंतरिक स्वातंत्र्य व मुक्ती आपण अनुभवयास हवी. परमेश्वराला बाहय गोष्टींपेक्षा आपल्या अंतःकरणाची शुद्धता हवी आहे.
प्रार्थना : हे प्रभू येशू, तुझी वचने आत्मसात करण्यास व दया कृत्ये करुन सेवा करण्यास आम्हाला प्रेरणा दे, आमेन,
