मनुष्याने सर्व जग मिळवले आणि आपला जीव गमावला तर त्याला काय लाभ ? For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul?

ख्रिस्तसभा आज संत डॉमणिक गुझमनचा सन्मान करीत आहे. पवित्र जीवनशैली, परखड व प्रभावी प्रबोधन आणि प्रार्थनामय जीवन ह्यामुळे त्यांनी एक लाख अख्रिस्ती लोकांना ख्रिस्ती धर्माकडे आणले. विशेषत: त्यांनी रोझरीच्या प्रार्थनेचा प्रसार केला.
पहिले वाचन : अनुवाद ४:३२-८०

"देवाने तुझ्या पूर्वजांवर प्रीती केली म्हणून त्यांच्यामागून त्यांच्या संतानाला त्याने निवडून घेतले."
मोशे लोकांना म्हणाला, “देवाने पृथ्वीवर मानवाला निर्माण केले तेव्हापासून तुझ्या जन्मापर्यंत होऊन गेलेल्या काळात अशी महान गोष्ट कधी घडली होती किंवा ऐकण्यात आली होती का ? हे आकाशाच्या एका सीमेपासून दुसऱ्या सीमेपर्यंत विचारून पाहा. तुम्ही ऐकले त्याप्रमाणे देवाच्या वाणीचे शब्द ऐकूनही दुसरे कोणी लोक जिवंत राहिले आहेत का? त्याप्रमाणेच तुमचा देव परमेश्वर ह्याने इजिप्त देशातून तुमच्यासाठी तुमच्यादेखत संकटे, चिन्हे, चमत्कार, युद्धे, पराक्रमी हात आणि उगारलेला बाहू ह्यांच्या योगे भयप्रद कृत्ये केली तशी कृत्ये करून देवाने आपणासाठी एखादे राष्ट्र इतर राष्ट्रांमधून काढून घेण्याचा कधी प्रयत्न केला का ? परमेश्वरच देव आहे आणि त्याच्याशिवाय दुसरा नाही असे तुला कळावे म्हणून हे तुला दाखविण्यात आले. तुला शिक्षण द्यावे म्हणून आकाशातून त्याने आपली वाणी तुला ऐकवली आणि पृथ्वीवर त्याने तुला आपला महाअग्नी दाखवला; आणि अग्नीमधून निघालेले त्याचे शब्द तू ऐकले. त्याने तुझ्या पूर्वजांवर प्रीती केली म्हणून त्यांच्यामागून त्यांच्या संतानाला त्याने निवडून घेतले आणि स्वतः आपल्या महासामर्थ्याने त्याने तुला इजिप्त देशातून बाहेर आणले. तुझ्यापेक्षा महान आणि सामर्थ्यवान राष्ट्रांना तुझ्यापुढून घालवून देऊन तुला त्यांच्या देशात न्यावे आणि त्यांची भूमी तुला वतन करून द्यावी. म्हणून त्याने तसे केले आहे; आज हे तुम्ही पाहतच आहात. म्हणून आज हे समजून घ्या आणि ध्यानात ठेवा की, वर आकाशात आणि खाली पृथ्वीवर परमेश्वरच देव आहे, दुसरा कोणी नाही. तुझे आणि तुझ्यामागून तुझ्या वंशजांचे बरे व्हावे आणि तुझा देव परमेश्वर जो देश तुला निरंतर देत आहे त्यात तू चिरकाळ राहावे म्हणून आज मी तुला देत असलेले विधी आणि आज्ञा ह्यांचे पालन कर."

Deuteronomy 4:32-40
Moses spoke to the people, saying "Ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and ask from one end of heaven to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever happened I or was ever heard of. Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live? Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it was shown, that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him. Out of heaven he let you hear his voice, that he might discipline you. And on earth he let you see his great fire, and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire. And because he loved your fathers and chose their offspring after them and brought you out of Egypt with his own presence, by his great power, driving out before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is this day, know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. Therefore you shall keep his statutes and his commandments, which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for all time."

वाचक :मतयलिखित पवित्र शुभवर्तमानातून घेतलेले वाचन
"मनुष्य आपल्या जिवाबद्दल काय मोबदला देणार?"
येशू आपल्या शिष्यांना म्हणाला, “माझ्यामागे येण्याची कोणाची इच्छा असेल तर त्याने स्वतःचा त्याग करावा आणि आपला क्रूस उचलून घेऊन मला अनुसरावे. कारण जो कोणी आपला जीव वाचवू पाहतो, तो आपल्या जिवाला मुकेल आणि जो कोणी माझ्याकरिता आपल्या जिवाला मुकेल त्याला तो मिळेल. मनुष्याने सर्व जग मिळवले आणि आपला जीव गमावला तर त्याला काय लाभ ? अथवा मनुष्य आपल्या जिवाबद्दल काय मोबदला देणार ? मनुष्याचा पुत्र आपल्या पित्याच्या गौरवानिशी आपल्या दूतांसह येईल त्यावेळी तो प्रत्येकाला ज्याच्या त्याच्या कृत्यांप्रमाणे फळ देईल. मी तुम्हाला नक्कीच सांगतो, येथे उभे असलेल्यांमध्ये काही असे आहेत की, ते मनुष्याच्या पुत्राला त्याच्या राज्यात येताना पाहतील तोपर्यंत त्यांना मरणाचा अनुभव येणारच नाही.
प्रभूचे हे शुभवर्तमान

Gospel Reading :Matthew 16:24-28:
At that time: Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

शिष्यत्व, क्रूस व येशूचे अनुकरण ह्यांच्यातील अतूट नाते येशू स्पष्ट करतो. हे आत्मत्यागाचे आमंत्रण परिवर्तनासाठी आवाहन आहे, परमेश्वराला शरण जाण्यासाठी निमंत्रण आहे. थोडक्यात, येशूचे शिष्य होणे म्हणजे मानवी योजनाना तिलांजली देणे, आत्मत्यागासाठी तयारी करणे व दैवी योजनांशी एकरूप होणे... "माणसाने सारे जग जिंकले परंतु आपला जीव / आत्मा गमावला तर त्याचा काय फायदा?" हे प्रभू येशूचे वचन संत इग्नेशियस लोयोला ह्यांनी संत फ्रान्सिस झेविअर ह्यांना सांगितले आणि काय ते नवल! संत फ्रान्सिस बदलले ते कायमचे... ह्या जीवनानंतरच्या जीवनासाठी मी काहीतरी तरतूद व तयारी करतोय का ?
