मठाधिकारी अँथनी १०५ वर्षांच्या प्रदीर्घ जीवनमानानंतर ख्रिस्तवासी झाले. त्यांना हॉस्पिटलमधील कर्मचारी, खाच खणणारे, खाटिक, ब्रश आणि टोपल्या तयार करणारे, ह्यांचा आश्रयदाता संत म्हणून गौरविण्यात आले आहे. अपस्मार, फिट्स येणे, मरी, त्वचा रोग इ. आजारांतून मुक्ती मिळावी म्हणून संत अँथनी ह्यांची मध्यस्थी केली जाते.
चिंतन : हजारो फुलांमधून मकरंद गोळा करणाऱ्या मधमाशीप्रमाणे ख्रिस्ती व्यक्तीने आपल्या मित्रांकडून चांगले तेच घ्यावे. कोणाकडून सौजन्य, कोणाकडून साधेपणा आणि मौन, तर कोणाकडून सहनशीलता शिकून घ्यावी. - संत अँथनी महान.

“दावीदने गोफणगुंडा घेऊन त्या पलिष्ट्यावर सरशी केली. " दावीद शौलला म्हणाला, "त्या पलिष्ट्यामुळे कोणीही माणसाने मन कचरू नये, आपला हा दास जाऊन त्याच्याशी लढेल." शौल दावीदला म्हणाला, "ह्या पलिष्ट्याशी लढण्यास तू समर्थ नाहीस, कारण तू केवळ तरुण आहेस आणि तो बाळपणापासून कसलेला योद्धा आहे." दावीद आणखी म्हणाला, “ज्या परमेश्वराने मला सिंहाच्या आणि अस्वलाच्या पंजांतून सोडवले तोच मला ह्या पलिष्ट्याच्या हातातून सोडवील." तेव्हा शौल दावीदला म्हणाला, “जा, परमेश्वर तुझ्याबरोबर असो!" मग त्याने आपली काठी हाती घेतली, ओहोळातून पाच गुळगुळीत गोटे वेचून आपल्या थैलीत म्हणजे धनगरी बटव्यात ठेवले आणि आपली गोफण हाती घेऊन तो त्या पलिष्ट्याकडे गेला.
तिकडे तो पलिष्टीही दावीदच्या जवळ आला. त्याचा शस्त्रवाहक त्याच्यापुढे चालत होता. त्या पलिष्ट्याने दावीदला न्याहाळून पाहिले तेव्हा तो त्याला तुच्छ वाटला, तो केवळ अल्पवयी असून तांबूस रंगाचा आणि सुकुमार होता. तो पलिष्टी दावीदला म्हणाला, “मी काय कुत्रा आहे म्हणून तू काठी घेऊन माझ्यापुढे आला आहेस?" त्या पलिष्ट्याने आपल्या देवांची नावे घेऊन दावीदला शिव्याशाप दिले. तो दावीदला म्हणाला, “असा जवळ ये म्हणजे तुझे मांस आकाशातील पक्ष्यांस आणि वनपशूंस देतो." तेव्हा दावीद त्या पलिष्ट्याला म्हणाला, “तू तरवार, भाला आणि बरची घेऊन माझ्यावर चालून आला आहेस; पण इस्राएली सैन्यांच्या देवाला तू तुच्छ लेखले आहेस, त्या सेनाधीश परमेश्वराच्या नामाने मी तुझ्याकडे आलो आहे. आज परमेश्वर तुला माझ्या हाती देईल, मी तुझा वध करीन आणि तुझे शीर धडापासून वेगळे करीन. मी आज पलिष्टी सैनिकांची प्रेते आकाशातील पक्ष्यांस आणि वनपशूंस देईन; तेव्हा इस्राएलमध्ये देव आहे असे अखिल पृथ्वीला विदित होईल आणि या सगळ्या समुदायाला कळून येईल की, परमेश्वर तरवारीने आणि भाल्याने विजयी होतो असे नाही; कारण हे युद्ध परमेश्वराचे आहे, तो तुम्हांला आमच्या हाती देईल."
मग तो पलिष्टी उठून दावीदशी सामना करण्यासाठी जवळ आला, तेव्हा दावीद त्या पलिष्ट्याशी सामना करण्यासाठी सैन्य होते त्या दिशेकडे त्वरेने धावला. दावीदने आपल्या बटव्यात हात घालून त्यातून एक गोटा घेऊन गोफणीत घातला आणि ती गरगर फिरवून पलिष्ट्याच्या मस्तकावर असा मारला की, तो त्याच्या कपाळात घुसून तो जमिनीवर पालथा पडला. या प्रकारे दावीदने गोफणगुंडा घेऊन त्या पलिष्ट्यावर सरशी केली आणि त्याचा वध केला; दावीदच्या हाती तरवार नव्हती. दावीदने धावत जाऊन त्या पलिष्ट्याच्या छातीवर पाय दिला आणि त्याचीच तरवार म्यानांतून काढून त्याला ठार करून त्याचे शीर छेदले. आपला महावीर गतप्राण झाला हे पाहून पलिष्टी पळून गेले.

any man’s heart be dismayed in him: I thy servant will go, and will fight
against the Philistine. And Saul said to David: Thou art not able to
withstand this Philistine, nor to fight against him: for thou art but a boy,
but he is a warrior from his youth. And David said: The Lord who delivered
me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver
me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David: Go, and the Lord
be with thee. And he took his staff, which he had always in his hands: and
chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them into the shepherd’s
scrip, which he had with him, and he took a sling in his hand, and went forth
against the Philistine. And the Philistine came on, and drew nigh against
David, and his armourbearer before him. And when the Philistine looked,
and beheld David, he despised him. For he was a young man, ruddy, and of a
comely countenance. And the Philistine said to David: Am I a dog, that
thou comest to me with a staff? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And
he said to David: Come to me, and I will give thy flesh to the birds of the
air, and to the beasts of the earth. And David said to the Philistine:
Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come
to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel,
which thou hast defied. This day, and the Lord will deliver thee into my
hand, and I will slay thee, and take away thy head from thee: and I will give
the carcasses of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air,
and to the beasts of the earth: that all the earth may know that there is a God
in Israel. And all this assembly shall know, that the Lord saveth not with
sword and spear: for it is his battle, and he will deliver you into our hands. And
when the Philistine arose and was coming, and drew nigh to meet David, David
made haste, and ran to the fight to meet the Philistine. And he put his
hand into his scrip, and took a stone, and cast it with the sling, and fetching
it about struck the Philistine in the forehead: and the stone was fixed in his
forehead, and he fell on his face upon the earth. And David prevailed over
the Philistine, with a sling and a stone, and he struck, and slew the
Philistine. And as David had no sword in his hand, He ran, and stood over
the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath, and slew
him, and cut off his head. And the Philistines seeing that their champion was
dead, fled away.

"शब्बाथ दिवशी जीव वाचवणे सशास्त्र आहे काय ?"
येशू सभास्थानात गेला. तेथे वाळलेल्या हाताचा एक माणूस होता आणि त्याच्यावर दोष ठेवावा म्हणून शब्बाथ दिवशी तो त्याला बरे करतो की काय हे पाहावयास ते टपून बसले होते. तेव्हा त्याने हात वाळलेल्या माणसाला म्हटले, “असा पुढे ये." मग तो त्यांना म्हणाला, “शब्बाथ दिवशी बरे करणे किंवा वाईट करणे, जीव वाचवणे किंवा जीव घेणे, ह्यातून कोणते सशास्त्र आहे ?" पण ते उगेच राहिले. मग त्याने त्यांच्या अंतःकरणाच्या कठीणपणामुळे खिन्न होऊन त्या सर्वांकडे रागाने पाहिले आणि त्या माणसाला म्हटले, “हात लांब कर." त्याने हात लांब केला आणि तो बरा झाला. मग परुशी बाहेर जाऊन येशूचा घात कसा करावा ह्याविषयी लागलीच हेरोदियांबरोबर त्याच्याविरुद्ध मसलत करीत बसले.

days; that they might accuse him. And he said to the man
who had the withered hand: Stand up in the midst. And he saith to them: Is
it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to
destroy? But they held their peace. And looking round about on them with
anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he saith to the man:
Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored
unto him. And the Pharisees going out, immediately made a consultation
with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

चिंतन:"शब्बाथ पवित्र पाळ" ही परमेश्वराच्या दहा महाआज्ञेमधील चौथी आज्ञा आहे. शब्बाथचा दिवस हा आठवड्यातील शेवटचा दिवस, म्हणजे शनिवार आहे. परंतु ख्रिस्ती लोकांसाठी प्रभू येशूच्या पुनरुत्थानाचा दिवस, म्हणजे आठवड्याचा पहिला दिवस "रविवार" हा पवित्र आहे. ह्या दिवशी प्रभू येशूच्या मृत्यूवरील विजयामुळे नवीन निर्मितीला सुरुवात झाली, म्हणून प्रेषितीय काळापासून ख्रिस्ती लोक "रविवार पवित्र पाळतात." ह्या दिवसाच्या नियमाची संकल्पना तीच आहे म्हणून प्रभू येशू ह्या दिवसाच्या नियमाच्या पालनाकडे बोट दाखवताना आपला भ्रम उघड करतोः शब्बाथ दिवशी बरे करणे किंवा वाईट करणे, जीव वाचवणे किंवा जीव घेणे, ह्यांतून कोणते सशास्त्र आहे? शास्त्री-परूशी प्रभू येशूबद्दल क्रोधाने आणि तिरस्काराने भरले होते, कारण त्यांनी परमेश्वरापेक्षा स्वतःच्या विचारांना वरचढ मानले. शब्बाथच्या आज्ञेमागचा परमेश्वराचा पवित्र हेतू त्यांना समजला नाही, म्हणून ते स्वतः तयार केलेल्या नियमात अडकून पडले होते. त्यांच्या अंत:करणाच्या कठोरतेबद्दल प्रभू येशू दुःखी होतो.
