पहिले वाचन :यिर्मया ३१:३१-३४
वाचन : यिर्मया या पुस्तकातून घेतलेले वाचन
"मी नवीन करार करीन. त्यांचे पाप मी यापुढे स्मरणार नाही असे परमेश्वर म्हणतो."
पाहा, असे दिवस येत आहेत की त्यात इस्राएलचे घराणे आणि यहुदाचे घराणे यांच्याबरोबर मी नवीन करार करीन असे परमेश्वर म्हणतो. मी त्यांच्या पूर्वजांचा हात धरून त्यांना देशातून बाहेर आणले, तेव्हाच्या कराराप्रमाणे हा करार व्हावयाचा नाही; मी त्यांच्याबरोबर विवाह केला तरी तो माझा करार त्यांनी मोडला. म्हणून परमेश्वर म्हणतो, त्या दिवसांनंतर इस्राएलच्या घराण्याबरोबर जो करार मी करीन तो हा : मी आपले धर्मशास्त्र त्यांच्या अंतर्यामी ठेवीन, मी ते त्यांच्या हृदयपटलांवर लिहीन; मी त्यांचा देव होईन आणि ते माझे लोक होतील. यापुढे कोणी आपल्या शेजाऱ्यांना, कोणी आपल्या बंधूला, परमेश्वराला ओळखा, असा बोध करणार नाहीत; कारण लहानापासून थोरापर्यंत ते सर्व मला ओळखतील; मी त्यांच्या अधर्माची क्षमा करीन, त्यांचे पाप मी यापुढे स्मरणार नाही.

Jeremiah 31:31-34
Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord', for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

Create a pure heart for me, O God.

"तू पेत्र आहेस; मी तुला स्वर्गराज्याच्या किल्ल्या देईन."
फिलिप्पीच्या कैसरीयाकडल्या भागात गेल्यावर येशूने आपल्या शिष्यांना विचारले, “मनुष्याच्या पुत्राला लोक कोण म्हणून म्हणतात ?” ते म्हणाले, “कित्येक बाप्तिस्मा करणारा योहान, कित्येक एलिया, कित्येक यिमर्या, किंवा संदेष्ट्यातील कोणी एक, असे म्हणतात.” तो त्यांना म्हणाला, "पण तुम्ही मला कोण म्हणून म्हणता ?” शिमोन पेत्रने उत्तर दिले, "आपण ख्रिस्त, जिवंत देवाचे पुत्र आहा.” येशूने त्याला म्हटले, “शिमोन बार्योना, धन्य तुझी! कारण मांस आणि रक्त यांनी नव्हे तर माझ्या स्वर्गातील पित्याने हे तुला प्रकट केले आहे. आणखी मी तुला सांगतो, तू पेत्र आहेस आणि ह्या खडकावर मी आपली मंडळी रचीन आणि तिच्यापुढे अधोलोकाच्या द्वारांचे काहीच चालणार नाही. मी तुला स्वर्गराज्याच्या किल्ल्या देईन आणि पृथ्वीवर जे काही तू बांधशील ते स्वर्गात बांधले जाईल आणि पृथ्वीवर जे काही तू मोकळे करशील ते स्वर्गात मोकळे केले जाईल.” तेव्हा त्याने शिष्यांना निक्षून सांगितले की, मी ख्रिस्त आहे हे कोणालाही सांगू नका.तेव्हापासून येशू आपला शिष्यांना सांगू लागला की, मी येरुशलेमला जाऊन वडील, मुख्य याजक, आणि शास्त्री ह्यांच्याकडून पुष्कळ दुःखे सोसावी, जिवे मारले जावे आणि तिसऱ्या दिवशी उठवले जावे ह्याचे अगत्य आहे. तेव्हा पेत्र त्याला जवळ घेऊन त्याला निषेध करून म्हणाला, “प्रभुजी, आपणावर दया असो, असे आपल्याला होणारच नाही." परंतु तो वळून पेत्रला म्हणाला, “अरे सैताना, माझ्यापुढून निघून जा; तू मला अडखळण आहेस; कारण देवाच्या गोष्टींकडे तुझे लक्ष नाही, तर माणसांच्या गोष्टींकडे आहे."

Matthew 16:13-23
At that time: When Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you." But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man."

चिंतन:येशूचे चमत्कार, महत्कृते आणि अधिकार वाणीने दिलेली शिकवण पाहून सगळ्या लोकांना प्रश्न पडला होता. की, हा आहे तरी कोण ? बऱ्याच नावांनी लोक येशूला ओळखू लागले. काहींना वाटले की, हा बाप्तिस्मा करणारा योहान आहे, तर काहींना तो एलिया किंवा यिर्मया वाटला, काहींना तो संदेष्ट्यांपैकी कोणी एक वाटला. बऱ्याच जणांना वाटले की, यिर्मया आणि एलिया संदेष्ट्यांचे पुनरुत्थान होऊन ते परत आपल्याला शिक्षण देत आहेत. कारण येशूने म्हटले होते की, एलिया संदेष्टा परत येणार आहे. हेरोदालावाटले की योहान बाप्तिस्ता परत आला आहे. लोकांचा विश्वास पटला की, येशू हा एक महान संदेष्टा आहे. फक्त पेत्रानेच येशूला मसीहा, तारणारा म्हणून ओळखले. आज आपण संत डॉमणिकची स्मृती साजरी करीतो. आपल्या प्रवचनाद्वारे त्यांनी ख्रिस्ती श्रद्धा शुद्ध आणि अबाधित ठेवली. आपण ख्रिस्ताला कोण म्हणून ओळखतो ?
प्रार्थना : हे प्रभू येशू, तुझ्या सेवाकार्याला वाहून घेतलेल्या सर्व धर्मगुरुंना चांगले आरोग्य लाभू दे, त्यांना तू सुरक्षित ठेव, आमेन.
