खिस्तसभा आज संत मरियम तेरसिया हीचा स्मृतीदिन साजरा करीत आहे. बालपणापासूनच तेरसीयाला देवाच्या प्रेमाची गोडी लागली व तिने स्वत:ला प्रार्थनामध्ये समर्पित केले. गरीब, आजारी आणि गरजवंतांच्या सेवेसाठी तिने स्वत:चे जीवन ख्रिस्तचरणी समर्पित केले आहे. बिशपांच्या विनंती करुन तिने फ्रान्सिस्कन क्लॅरेटस् संस्थेची स्थापना केली. तिच्या प्रार्थनेद्वारे संत तेरसीयाने आध्यात्म्याची उच्च पातळी गाठली होती. संत मरियम तेरेसीयाचा आदर्श समोर ठेवून आपण सेवाकार्य करण्यास प्रेरणा घेऊ या.

"एलिया इस्राएलच्या देवाचा सेवक आहे."
एलिया तिश्बी हा गिलाद येथे उपरी म्हणून राहणाऱ्यांपैकी एक होता. तो अहाबाला म्हणाला, "इस्राएलचा देव परमेश्वर ज्याचा सेवक मी आहे त्याच्या जीविताची मी शपथ वाहून सांगतो की, जी वर्षे आता येणार त्यात दंहिवर अथवा पर्जन्य पडणार नाही. हे सर्व माझ्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे होईल." पुढे परमेश्वराचे वचन त्यांला प्राप्त झाले "येथून निघून पूर्व दिशेला जा आणि यार्दैनसमोरच्या करिंथ ओहळानजीक लपून राहा. त्या ओहळाचे पाणी तुला प्यायला मिळेल आणि मी कावळ्यांना आज्ञा केली आहे, ते तुला अन्न पुरवतील." परमेश्वराच्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे तो यार्दैनसमोरच्या करिंथ ओहळानजीक जाऊन राहिला. कावळे त्याला भाकरी आणि मांस सकाळ संध्याकाळ आणून देत आणि त्या ओहळाचे पाणी तो पिई.
प्रभूचा शब्द आहे.

First Reading :1 Kgs 17: 1-6
Now Eli´jah the Tishbite, of Tishber in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the Lord the God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.” And the word of the Lord came to him, “Depart from here and turn eastward, and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, that is east of the Jordan. You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” So he went and did according to the word of the Lord; he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.
